CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Participatory Photography Commission
20 April 2012 - 30 June 2012Pump House Gallery are commissioning a new participatory photography project and exhibition.
We are seeking proposals from artists to work with photography in a participatory context to develop a new exhibition and project that will facilitate the gallery’s local audience participation in its realisation.
Pump House Gallery is a public contemporary visual arts space on the lakeside in Battersea Park, South London. The gallery is owned, managed and funded by Wandsworth Council and plays a leading role in the cultural life of the borough. It is the highest profile public visual arts space in Wandsworth, attracting over 30,000 visitors a year.
Collaborative partnerships are central to Pump House Gallery’s future curatorial vision: to create opportunities for artists to explore new modes of practice and enquiry, engage with social and civic spaces, extend the cultural experience of audiences and create catalytic sites for exchange, dialogue and debate. This project builds upon the success of our previous programme which has made participation and engagement central to the realisation of its exhibitions. Particular highlights have been ‘I am a Warrior’ an open exhibition project by Juneau Projects, staged in autumn 2011 and developed by curator Jeni Walwin; and 'Social States' at the gallery in Spring 2012, featuring artists Baptist Coelho and Nadia Kaabi-Linke, who made site-specific work as part of a residency co-hosted by Pump House Gallery and The Delfina Foundation.
We envisage the development and/or enagagement element of the project happening during autumn 2012 , with the resulting exhibition being staged in early 2013.
