Exploring the Thames River through theatre, music and illuminated big puppets
Kids Create Club, ROSE Community Centre - Nine Elms, Wandsworth, SW8 4DL
4 - 5pm on Wednesdays
18 January - 22 March 2017
Kids Create Club embarks on a new adventure in the Spring Term, launching investigations into microscopic monsters from the Thames. Why do they exist? Where can you find them? How do they help our local environment? These and other questions will be explored through free weekly workshops and a public display in collaboration with Puppets With GUTS – bringing giant puppet theatre to the borough as part of Wandsworth Council’s wider arts and cultural offer. In this programme, the gallery works with artists and local communities to find ways to explore, capture and animate the local surroundings.
Building the success of last terms Superhoodies project, this term’s project will connect the ROSE Community Centre to the soon-to-be opened Village Hall at Battersea Power Station. The Monster Soup project explores creative connections between Patmore, Carey Gardens, Savona Estates and the nearby River Thames.
Kids Create Club is looking for a team of young, local, enthusiastic investigators to join us for Monster Soup. Participants will collect water samples from the river and document fictional microbes in the water, after which they will begin designing their very own giant, illuminated puppet monster. These imaginative creatures will then meet in a final public event giving everyone the chance to show off their creation!
